Hylauronic Acid is a hot topic of discussion at the moment, having it’s moment in the skincare spotlight. With an endless list of benefits, hydrating our body’s largest organ, the skin. HA is most definitely the ‘go-to’ ingredient during lockdown & is a must in every skin lover’s survival kit!

What is it?

Hylauronic Acid (HA) is a substance that occurs naturally in our skin & connective tissue. Although it’s called an acid, it’s not exfoliating like glycolic or lactic. Instead it’s a humectant, meaning it can draw moisture to the skin. It can hold up to 1,000 times it’s own weight in water, being one of the best humectants.

Why use it?

Because our skin is naturally made up of 64% water, anything that helps to attract water to it & keeping it hydrated is a good thing. Well hydrated skin looks healthier with fewer lines, so hylauronic acid will help keep skin looking plumped up, youthful & glowy. There has also been some evidence that HA has antioxidant properties too, so could protect skin from free-radical damage associated with the acceleration of t he aging process.

WHO SHOULD USE IT?

Everyone can benefit from HA, especially if you are prone to dehydration & even more important as you age, as in your 20s natural levels produced in the body start to decline. HA is a very gentle ingredient & can be safely used by those with sensitivity, rosacea & acne.

How should you use it?

You will find HA in most Alumier MD products but if you are skin focused & want quicker results, look for a serum. These generally contain a higher percentage of HA than creams or lotions.

When should you use it?

Hylauronic Acid can be used in the morning & evening, best applied after cleansing & before applying a cream to lock moisture in.

What else should you know?

HA is a rather large molecule & tends to sit on the surface of the skin to plump outer layers, other serums contain low molecular Sodium Hylauronate (HA) that can penetrate further at a deeper level for even greater results.
